crown of thorns
applying the gold
This project has been designed and worked for Lent by Durham Cathedral Broderers.  These images show the final stages for the high altar - applying the gold.  The gold is mainly fine gold kid leather and or nué - colour over couched gold threads, using blood red thread.

The Crown of Thorns is being applied onto linen fabric on top of the the silk applied or appliqué desert grasses worked with Durham stitch - a stitch technique we devised.
